Mike Keeney - Owner/Founder of Sound Music School
Hi, I’m Mike Keeney, founder of Sound Music School in Seattle, WA. My life has been blessed with music since an early age when I discovered 80’s pop music like George Michael and Michael Jackson. I would wait for my favorite songs to come on the radio and jump up and dance on my bed with reckless abandon. Rhythm and harmony always seemed to have a supernatural effect on my brain and body. I switched around taking piano lessons, violin lessons, dance classes and eventually discovered guitar when I was 14 years old. At one point in time I had 3 different private instructors! Each one specializing in rock, jazz and classical guitar. My enthusiasm was palpable and I always looked forward to my private lesson experience. I was fortunate to have supportive parents who encouraged me to pursue my creative passions but emphasized the work that really goes into it in order to find success.
When I moved to Seattle with my wife in 2014, I started up a small guitar lesson studio in Fremont called The Mike Keeney Guitar School. I was fortunate to work with a lot of wonderful budding musicians of all backgrounds with a broad variety of stylistic preferences. In 2019, my cup of students was overflowing and I made the leap towards bringing on additional colleagues and started building a proper music school. In February of 2020 (just before the Covid lockdown) Sound Music School was born. We are now a collective of over a dozen professional musicians with over one hundred combined years of teaching experience! We know the passion and the struggle of growing on your musical journey. All of us have formal music training and years of experience performing in all types of environments. We understand that there’s more than one approach that works and are excited to share with you all the endless possibilities of music. All you have to do is walk through the door. The only thing you need for success is a love for music ❤️
